A dramatic difference
September 25, 2013
As they say in theater “the show must go on.” No matter the obstacle or change theater students must adapt quickly for the sake of the production. This year, the theater and thespian program added a new cast member to their program who will be playing the part of the drama teacher, Ms. Robin Barson.
Ms. Barson was hired after the administration promoted Ms. Elizabeth Valero the past drama teacher, to activities director. Ms. Barson worked as the drama teacher for the theater program at Ammons Middle School before taking her talents to Palmetto.
“I am very excited about the new year and the expertise Ms. Barson will be bringing to the theater program,” Ms. Valero said. “I will not be leaving the theater program completely and I will still remain the sponsor of Impawvisaton. I’m looking forward to working as a team and plan on assisting Ms. Barson with acting elements and set designing.”
Ms. Barson plans on bringing many positive changes to the theater program beyond the performance aspect. She hopes to make the theater program facilities a cleaner and safer place to practice their craft.
“Now that I’m a member of the Palmetto teaching community, I’m committed to continuing with the rich traditions and seeing this program fulfill its potential,” Ms. Barson said. “I’ve been working with the theater program here at school for 20 years; from my son being a student here, to assisting Mrs. Valero and now finally on staff Mrs. Valero and I and the Palmetto community are sure to be a fabulous team. We welcome everyone’s support.”
The show schedule for this school year has not been released but will be revealed in the up coming weeks. Ms. Barson and Ms. Valero will once again be taking their most talented students to the district and state Thespians competitions starting in November. They plan on improving their performances from years past.
“Both Ms. Barson and Ms. Valero excel in different elements of theater. Ms. Barson is great at the singing and acting portion, while Mrs. Valero is fabulous at the technical side and movements aspect,” senior Nicolette Hernandez said. “They both balance each other out which I think will be a key part to the improvement of the theater program here at Palmetto High.”
