Nick Saban, revered college football head coach, will not be returning to coach the University of Alabama Crimson Tide. As head coach, Sabean has led the team to six titles, one previously at Louisiana State University — the most any coach has had in major college football history.
Saban ultimately compiled a total record of 292-71-1 in his college football coaching career. His coaching career started at the University of Toledo in 1990, where he coached for one season. Saban then went to Michigan State University for five seasons and Louisiana State University for another five seasons where he won his first National Championship in 2003. After this, Saban temporarily jumped to the National Football League and coached the Miami Dolphins for two seasons before going back to coaching college football at Alabama.
The retirement came unexpectedly, without signs predicting his retirement, and following Alabama making the College Football Playoffs again. Saban revealed his age had started to become a problem as he was not able to do his job like he normally had for the past 17 seasons.
Saban’s time with the Crimson Tide left them ranked No.1 in the Associated Press poll for 15 straight seasons, breaking the University of Miami’s record seven seasons.
