On Thurs., Sept. 5, Alex Morgan, an American professional soccer player, publicly announced her retirement.
Morgan is a two-time World Cup champion on the U.S. National Soccer team and a 2012 Olympic gold medalist. She also played for the San Diego Wave Football Club team for two and a half seasons.
While playing professionally, she scored 123 goals, becoming the fifth-highest scorer in the USNS team’s history. As a self-proclaimed advocate for women’s sports, Morgan has helped raise pay for female athletes.
Morgan says that she will play her last game with San Diego Wave FC on Sun., Sept. 8.
In addition to retiring, Morgan revealed that she has a second child on the way. She expressed gratitude for everyone involved in her success. Looking back on her 15-year career, she claimed that she is proud of herself and has no doubt that she gave it her all.
