And then there were 35
February 25, 2014
Three hundred voters and 35 winners turned one jumbled mess into a smooth event. On Tuesday, February 25, as the faculty cattle called freshmen and sophomores into FCAT testing rooms and juniors piled into the auditorium, the senior class gathered under the Pawvilion for crown decorating, panoramic photo taking and superlative announcing.
Unfortunately, before senior sponsor and economics teacher Mr. Armando Gonzalez could make any announcements, the superlative process endured a rollercoaster of issues.
“Originally we were going to have two days of voting but we did not have a list of kids who had already voted [from the first day]. That became a problem,” Mr. Gonzalez said.
Due to discrepancies regarding the voting date, Student Government members resorted to asking seniors to vote while they waited in line for Grad Bash meeting passes.
“Thank god we had Grad Bash meeting passes. If not, not as many people would have come,” senior Avana Fernandez said. “It was a good turnout overall. The people that did win actually deserved it.”
Despite the rough start, the superlative issues subsided and the day went off without a hitch. Seniors decorated their long awaited crowns, took panoramic pictures and heard the superlatives as planned.
“The timing was perfect,” Mr. Gonzalez said. “[Also,] It was the best panoramic I have seen thus far.”
The faculty and student council appreciated the behavior of all the seniors; especially their cooperation as the Foxmar photographers captured the panoramic picture.
“Congrats to all of the winners, but you are all awesome in my eyes,” senior Dhanesh Budhram said. “The senior class did a great job behaving. It was really smooth. 2014 is the best class ever.”
