On Dec. 6, Miami Palmetto Senior High’s boys varsity basketball team played on their home court facing the Schoolhouse Prep Wolfpack. The boys have had a great attitude to start their season and do not plan on letting their hard work go to waste.
“Our season has just started with 3-2 with two losses back to back but we’ll get back on track,” senior and point guard Santiago Henriquez said.
The first quarter made it obvious how the rest of the game would go. With the MPSH boys’ defense, not much was getting past them. The quarter ended 28-12 MPSH, which fired up the boys to win by a landslide.
In the second quarter, MPSH led by almost double and did not have a fallback, keeping up their same attitude throughout the game never letting exhaustion get to them. Before halftime, they finished off strong with a 49-27 lead.
During the third quarter, the Panthers barely let the Wolves score and led 73-31.
“This win was expected since our players have accepted enough defeat and wanted to end their loss streak tonight,” sophomore and cheerleader Nadine Ku said.
From the beginning, there were high expectations for the game’s outcome.
“Today’s game I expect a win by more than 25 points, we beat them in the fall so we know what we’re up against,” Henriquez said.
The game ended with the MPSH boys putting forth maximum effort and finishing off more than doubling the score of Schoolhouse Prep, which matched Henriquez’s prediction.
The top scorers were Henriquez with 20 points to push their lead, and following right behind, sophomore and guard, Samfree Sarante with 15.
