BREAKING: US Capitol Shut Down Due to Protests Against Biden Victory Certification

Two US Capitol buildings- the Library of Congress’s Madison Building across from the Capitol and the Cannon House office building- have been evacuated by U.S. Capitol Police amid protests outside according to NBC.
Thousands of President Trump’s supporters are gathering outside the Capitol Building in response to the Congressional voting process to certify President-elect Joe Biden. President Trump had urged Vice President Pence to reject the electoral votes from the states he lost, which Pence rejected in a letter to congressional colleagues according to CNBC.
At 1 p.m. Wednesday hundreds of protestors broke past metal barricades near the back of the Capitol building, evading security guards according to the Washington Post, and reached the Senate Floor. According to NBC, this occurred after Trump spoke to a large group in front of the White House saying he would not accept the election results.
In response to the protests the DC mayor, Mayor Muriel E. Bowser announced a 6 pm curfew throughout Washington DC, excluding essential workers and those traveling to essential workers, at around 2:37 pm according to the Washington Post.
