Andre Braugher, also known as Captain Holt on the hit TV sitcom “Brooklyn 99,” has died at 61. Jennifer Allen, representative of Braugher, released a statement Tuesday saying he passed of a “short illness.” It was later revealed that Braugher had been diagnosed with lung cancer. Braugher died Monday, but there was news that he was diagnosed with cancer months before his death.
He was most known for his role as Captain Holt on the show, but he had other major roles in shows and movies such as “Homicide” and “Glory.” He was nominated for 11 Emmys throughout his career and walked away with two wins.
Braugher’s past castmates have released statements about their sorrow of the actor’s passing, including Terry Crews; “You showed me what a life well lived looks like. Rest In Peace, Andre. I love you, man,” as he published in his latest Instagram post.
His soul lives on through his wife, Ami Brabson, whom he met on “Homicide,” and his three sons John Wesley, Micheal and Isaiah Braugher.
