As President Joe Biden’s term comes to an end, it is important to remember what he did for the U.S. during his time in the White House. It could be said that Biden’s presidency was one of the toughest this country has ever seen, in large part due to the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout all of the chaos, Biden managed to do what he thought best for the U.S..
Biden’s main focus was on the essential response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which he addressed by issuing a nationwide vaccination campaign, to further provide economic relief for the country during the chaos of COVID-19. American Rescue Plan passed it, introducing a $1.9 trillion economic relief package. The package, in summary, provided direct payments to U.S. citizens, which extended to unemployment benefits as well as funding for the vaccine itself. Biden also mandated the masks and safety protocols during the COVID-19 era to give the nation some form of structure and plan during the confusing and fearful time. With school closures, Biden allocated funding for schools to open once again, as well as supporting small businesses that fell back during the pandemic.
In addition to Biden’s main response to the pandemic, he also implemented and signed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which focused on the improvement of transportation and utilities. The transportation involved included roads, bridges and railroads, as well as other facilities used to transport people and supplies. Broadband was also included in the Infrastructure Investment, otherwise known as communication networks such as telephones and other communication systems. Biden saw to it that the U.S. was functioning during the pandemic and prepared for future situations similar to the pandemic.
Biden also focused on climate change and rejoined the Paris Agreement. The Paris Agreement is an international treaty that originated in 2015 and was adopted to address climate change and its negative impacts. Almost every country in the world signed an agreement to take action and prepare for climate change and take control of global warming. The Paris Agreement was an effort globally targeted to fight against climate change.
Social policies were also another issue Biden targeted, which, in summary, was the expansion of child tax credit, and aimed to provide financial support to children and their families. Biden’s reasoning behind the expansion of the child tax credit was the reduction of child poverty and economic relief to further stimulate the economy by providing families with additional income by boosting consumer spending.
In terms of foreign policy, Biden also withdrew U.S. troops from Afghanistan, ending the longest American war.. Foreign Policy ranges from diplomacy and trade, as well as expanding to global issues.
