Countdown to Graduation Day 3: Graduation Speakers prepare for the big stage
May 29, 2017
On June 5, 2017, Miami Palmetto Senior High’s graduating class of 2017 will become Panther alumni at the Watsco Center at the University of Miami. Nostalgia will saturate the seats as several notable speeches will be presented that morning. Following Palmetto graduation traditions, speeches from Student Council President, Jonathan Roth, Senior Class president, Natalia Hazday and a surprise guest speaker from the class are expected to be presented.
A loyal Palmetto student who has left his mark on Palmetto and does not plan on stopping anytime soon, Jonathan Roth has spent the previous three years leading his class as president and this past year as Student Council president. One of the several important duties of Student Council President is a graduation speech.
“I’ve thought about my graduation speech ever since being elected Student Council President,” Roth said. “It’s tradition for student council president to deliver a speech. “As someone who loves public speaking, I can’t imagine a better way to finish off high school.”
Regarding the content of the speech, Roth was not able to reveal any specifics; however, he did give some hints on what to expect.
“I think I have I have a perfect combination of humor and motivation. You’ll have to be there to hear it for yourself,” Roth said.
Roth has high aspirations for how he wishes the crowd to react and appreciate the effort and time he has dedicated to this speech.
“I want people to really listen and understand the message I’m trying to send. I think it will be applicable including parents and faculty”, Roth added.
The surprise speaker will remain a surprise until the morning of June 9, until then the only information released on the mystery student is they auditioned for this role.
Overall, the Class of 2017’s graduation will be one to remember, due to the fact that the students who will be speaking seem to treasure this opportunity. Hazday and the surprise guest speaker, much like Roth, will most definitely cherish the opportunity and remember all the hard work that went into their speeches.
