On Feb. 14, Miami Palmetto Senior High’s School Safety Senate Committee held a Valentine’s Day event during both lunches in the courtyard. The committee’s booth was set up to have multiple cups that had compliments on each of them. If the student got the ping pong pall ball in the cup, they received a compliment.
“Alex [James] and I spent a lot of time making sure every compliment was super special and sweet so that everyone got a smile on their face for Valentine’s Day,” senior Paula Ortiz said.
It took the School Safety Committee about an hour and a half to set up for the event, but since most of them were teacher aids that period, it was no problem for any of them.
“We took out a table, found some red tablecloths, and got decorations the day before, so the setup was pretty much starting elements to be able to put the compliments in the cups,” Ortiz said.
Ortiz mentioned that during set up they only faced one difficulty and it was finding a little ball for the cup pong table.
“This event brings the school together because people like to come to the courtyard especially when there is an event,” Ortiz said. “If we play music and have the event going on, people come together and I think it just helps the whole positive mindset of students.”
Joining the School Safety Committee’s cup pong and compliments, the Class of 2027 held a Valentine’s Day photo booth alongside them in the courtyard.
“It was a lot of fun and we are hoping to raise more awareness to our Instagram and just the class of ‘27 to raise more money for our class,” sophomore and Class of 2027 Vice President Danielle Gems said.
Their photo booth cost two dollars per photo and students got their photos taken on a digital or polaroid camera.
“It’s a good way to celebrate Valentine’s Day even though there are a bunch of other Valentines events around school, like people selling flowers, we just wanted to add on with the photobooth to add some more Valentine’s Day cheer,” sophomore and Class of 2027 Co-President Grant Hudson said.
