Known for her roles in “Harry Potter” and “Downton Abbey,” Dame Maggie Smith has been announced dead as of Friday.
Smith’s children Chris Larken and Toby Stephens released a statement issued through her publicist stating that she passed peacefully and are devastated by the loss, the cause yet to be revealed. Known for being extremely private, Smith was surrounded by friends and family on the day of her passing.
Many posted in mourning following the release of Larken and Stephens’ news. Smith’s fellow co-stars, such as “Harry Potter”’s Daniel Radcliffe and “Downton Abbey”’s Hugh Bonneville, both made statements about how great the loss is, and how they will miss the joy and wisdom she brought to them every day. King Charles III also released a tribute to the “national treasure,” stating that her warmth and wit shone on and off the stage.
Her death, for fans as well as fellow actors who had worked alongside Smith, was a shock to all.
