On Dec. 17 over 20 states in the U.S. fell victim to an antisemitic cyber attack via email. Various synagogues nationwide, ranging from California to Florida and up to Maine, received more than 100 threats throughout the weekend.
Over the past year, South Carolina, as well as Arkansas and Kansas, have received similar threatening rhetoric aimed towards their Jewish congregations. However, police took action after Sunday’s event, sending officers and canine units after bomb threats across several states. California received the most threats, with 93 statewide bomb threats to local Jewish facilities.
These violent emails included phrases like “YOU WILL ALL DIE” and “CUT THE WEAK.” Additionally, the email servers contained words associated with death or gruesome topics.
Law enforcement has found these strings of emails empty threats and has worked diligently to find the sources of the hate speech, but the results are currently inconclusive. Antisemitism has increasingly affected Jewish people worldwide since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7.
