In the wake of recent large-scale Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has announced plans to increase sanctions against Iran, whose government provides crucial financial material and political support for Hamas, in Gaza and beyond.
State and municipal governments in Florida would be prohibited from doing business with any sector of the Iranian economy.
This includes “financial, construction, manufacturing, technology, mining, metals, shipping, shipbuilding and port sectors,” the Florida government said in a statement issued on Tuesday regarding the legislation.
This is not the first set of Sunshine State sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran. In May, Florida banned citizens of Iran and several other countries from buying land in certain parts of the state.
The proposed legislation was only briefly outlined this week, so it is not yet clear how these new restrictions would be enforced — let alone what impact they might have on the government of Iran or their proxies in Gaza.
