On Nov. 12, President-Elect Donald Trump established the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. Entrepreneurs Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk will head the new department. Musk was a major supporter of the bitcoin known as DOGECOIN, likely where the Department of Government Efficiency gets its DOGE abbreviation. DOGE’s main purpose is to “dismantle government bureaucracy, remove excess regulations, cut wasteful government spendings, and to restructure government agencies.” DOGE is not considered a government agency, so Musk and Ramaswamy will not be government workers.
Musk has already called for a plan to cut one-third of government spending, and Ramaswamy wishes to cut around 75% of the federal workforce. Neither of the co-chairs have experience running a government of any caliber and are both extremely wealthy. DOGE is expected to have major influence over the American government while Trump is president. The future of DOGE is uncertain, and the only clear thing is the power that these two non-government workers will have over the government of the United States.
