Starting on Sept. 30, Florida’s minimum wage will increase to $12 an hour. The state continues to carry out a constitutional amendment that will eventually lead to a $15 an hour minimum wage.
Voters in November 2020 approved the statewide referendum, which will gradually increase to reach the minimum wage of $15 an hour by 2026. After 2026, the wage per hour will increase based on inflation.
The Florida minimum wage was last changed in 2008 when it was raised $4.21 in total, from $6.79 to $11.00 an hour. Florida’s minimum wage rate is linked to a Consumer Price Index, which is intended to raise the wage rate in response to inflation.
In addition, the minimum wage for tipped workers is also set to increase. The minimum wage is set to $8.98 an hour from the previous value of $7.98. The minimum wage currently in Florida is $11 an hour, and it continues to increase yearly by $1 until 2026.
