An ocean of Columbia blue flooded the home bleachers of Tropical Park’s football field on Thursday, November 1 for the homecoming game against Killian.
“Everyone was painted. Even though we were losing everyone kept cheering Palmetto on,” sophomore and cheerleader Lindsie Lima said. “The crowd cheering us on is exciting, it’s a rush.”
Although Palmetto lost to Killian 51 to 12, the Panther spirit won. This spirit carried on to the following day when everyone spoke in excitement about what the team did accomplish. One of the most popular subjects of conversation was senior and varsity football player Jason Weiss’s touchdown.
“I was actually in pain because I accidentally elbowed myself in the stomach as I caught the ball and therefore I was unable to do a touchdown dance,” Weiss said. “We did not have a lot of depth due to our severe injuries.”
The Homecoming game was only one of several exciting moments of the candy-themed week. Monday kicked off the week with Twin day, where students planned matching outfits with their friends. Class color day took place on Tuesday, freshmen wore purple, sophomores sported yellow, juniors rocked orange, and seniors went all out in red. On Wednesday, October 31, students were able to wear their Halloween and candy-themed costumes. Spirit day and the senior pep rally occurred on Thursday. Formal Friday was a precursor to the Homecoming dance that night.
