It is difficult to recognize a toxic friendship, especially when you are at the receiving end. An important question to ask yourself is: am I happy in this relationship? Is this person inspiring me to be my absolute best? Am I doing the same for them? If you answer no to any of these questions you may be caught in a friendship that could potentially be detrimental to both concerning parties. One of the most defining factors of toxic relationships is hostile tension coupled with passive aggressive tendencies. Friendships that appear one-sided, where the person does not take the other person’s well-being into consideration, ultimately tears away the self esteem of everyone involved. Another sign of a toxic relationship, is when they constantly unearth past mistakes. the Keeping your emotions bottled up or even blaming the other person for these feelings can lead to a belligerent eruption, and trust me, it will not be pretty.
