On March 6, it was announced that the next coach for the Basketball team at the University of Miami would be Duke University’s former assistant coach, Jai Lucas. The new coach arrived after the former coach, Jim Larrañaga, stepped down from the position earlier this season due to a disappointing 4-8 start. Since Larrañaga stepped down, the Hurricanes have gone 2-16, continuing on the disappointing season.
While searching for the head coach, the interim has been former assistant Bill Courtney.
Jai Lucas has been coaching since 2013, having been with the University of Texas, the University of Kentucky and most recently, Duke University. Lucas is known as a “Relentless recruiter” as per UM athletics director Dan Radakovich. Lucas’ knowledge of the transfer portal is something the team needs, with a lackluster roster and a lackluster record to show to recruits.
