An indoor multisports facility, the largest in all of North America, is due to open west of Dolphin Mall and the Turnpike with a $110 million budget. The facility, known as Destination Sport Miami, will debut behind the Top Golf Doral. 

This project, while primarily funded by Orlando-based Tru North Capital Partners, has also received extensive financial assistance from the Miami-Dade County Commission. On account of the project’s potential community impact both socially and economically, the commission has allotted $2.94 million over the upcoming span of ten years. The company promises to create and maintain a total of 229 jobs with an average salary of $63,834.

The 820,000 square foot facility encompasses a wide variety of sports that many Miami residents would enjoy partaking in.

Aside from a NFL-FIFA regulation turf field for either football or soccer use, the complex also includes 36 volleyball courts, two NHL regulation hockey rinks, 18 NBA regulation basketball courts, an 50-meter Olympic-sized pool, eleven tennis courts, a surfing simulator, a 15,000 square foot gym and even an electronic sports area.

With its indoor capabilities, the facility hopes to serve as a safe haven for Miami athletes when issues, such as weather and spacing limit valuable practice time.

Complete with various amenities, the twenty acre complex also hopes to appease the tired parents of such athletes. Services offered include a 25-yard warm water therapy and a teaching pool, a rejuvenation spa, restaurants to dine on healthful food, a shop for supplies and 16 rooms in which to host events.

A large number of well-known retired athletes with a connection to Miami have announced their support for the facility.

Athletes who have voiced support for the project include the former U.S. Women’s soccer coach Jill Ellis (she currently lives in Palmetto Bay), former forward for the Miami Heat and All-Star NBA basketball player Glen Rice, NFL football Hall of Famer Randy Moss, NFL ice hockey Hall of Famer Bryan Trottier and former Miami Marlins baseball player Livian Hernandez.

The world-class facility is set to open up some time in Sept. 2023.
