The Los Angeles Dodgers are the 2024 World Series champions.
On October 30th, 2024, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York Yankees 7-6 in the fifth and final game of the 2024 Major League Baseball World Series. The Dodgers came back from a 5-run, fifth-inning deficit and beat New York five games in for the title.
Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning for New York. In the second, Alex Verdugo hit an RBI single which brought Anthony Volpe home, followed by Giancarlo Stanton’s third-inning home run that gave the Yankees’ a 4-0 lead. This was followed by Stanton’s sacrifice fly to center, which led to Juan Soto scoring. This brought the score to 5-0 New York.
In the top of the fifth inning, Mookie Betts reached on an infield single to first, which led to Enrique Hernandez scoring. Freddie Freeman singled to center, Tommy Edman scored and Will Smith scored. This was followed by Teoscar Hernandez’s double to center, which led to Betts and Freeman scoring. This brought the score to 5-5 in the fifth inning.
Juan Soto scored after Giancarlo Stanton’s sacrifice fly to center in the sixth, which brought the score to 6-5 Yankees. In the top of the eighth inning, Enrique Hernandez and Tommy Edman both scored, bringing the final score to 7-6 Dodgers.
The final scores of the World Series were 6-3 Dodgers in game 1, 4-2 Dodgers in game 2, 4-2 Dodgers in game 3, 11-4 Yankees in game 4, and 7-6 Dodgers in game 5. The Dodgers’ first baseman Freddie Freeman won World Series MVP this season.
Of the 234 teams to trail by five or more runs in a Series game, the Dodgers became the seventh to win.
