On Wednesday night, in Lewiston, Maine, shots were fired at both a bowling alley and a restaurant. The shooting involved an AR-15, leaving 18 dead and 13 more injured. The victims of the shooting range from 14-76 years old.
The shooter, identified as 40-year-old Robert Card, was found dead in the woods in Libson Falls, 10 miles from Lewiston, where the shooting had taken place. Card was on the run for 48 hours after the shooting and records show that Card was a military reservist who was battling mental health issues.
The victims included many deaf community members, who were at Schemengees Bar and Grille for a deaf cornhole tournament. Also included in the death toll, was a bar operator who died after lunging at the shooter with a butcher knife. There was a shelter-in-place order in all of Maine, and it was lifted Friday night. This shooting has been classified as the deadliest mass shooting yet in 2023.
