The results are in, and the Miami Palmetto Senior High 2025–26 Student Council Board has been announced. Elections were held on April 11, during which students voted for positions including Student Council President, Vice President, Secretary and Class Officers. Junior Danny Mazer was elected as Student Council President, with junior Paul Sasso as Vice President. Student Council’s goal is to bring fresh ideas and increase inclusivity within the school community. The newly elected board is committed to student engagement and organizing events that reflect the interests of the entire student body.
Mazer looks forward to representing MPSH’s students in the upcoming school year, and has many goals he hopes to achieve with the help of the Student Council.
“I ran for president because I really care about our school and wanted the opportunity to bring everyone together,” Mazer said. “I believe that with the right leadership, we could make next year full of spirit, energy and unity, and I wanted to be a part of making that happen. One of my main goals is to really boost school spirit. I want to work with everyone to create events and activities that get students excited and proud to be part of our school community.”
Each position has a different responsibility, but as president, many of the overall duties of the Student Council fall under Mazer.
“As president, I have to help lead meetings, organize events, communicate with the administration and make sure that all parts of the Student Council board are working together smoothly. It’s a big responsibility, but I’m excited to take it on,” Mazer said. “I work most closely with Paul Sasso, who is my vice president. We collaborate a lot, especially when it comes to organizing and running the school closets and making sure everything is ready for the year.”
Within the Board, there are many individual positions that come with specific responsibilities.
“I ran for president because I saw it as an opportunity to be as involved with my class as I could be. I knew that it would also continue to expand my communication and leadership skills,” freshman and Class of 2028 President Alessandra Panosso said. “As president, I make sure to keep all my board members on task, schedule monthly cabinet meetings, organize field trips and do my best to take into consideration my classmates’ suggestions.”
Class board members like Panosso receive support from their class sponsor and board.
“On Student Council, I work closely with the 2028 class sponsor, Mrs. Valero, as well as my vice president, Matthew Meyer and social media manager, Natalia Christianson, as they help me with social media posts,” Panosso said. “Now that I have been re-elected as Class of 2028 President, my goals for this upcoming school year are to achieve greater participation and attendance at fundraisers, redeem my class from Panther Prowl last year and promote more spirit through dressing up on spirit days and selling merchandise.”
For everyone who ran, regardless of whether they won or lost, running for a position on the Student Council Board was a stressful experience.
“The election process was stressful and took a lot of hard work. I had to create posters and gather support from my classmates. I had to create a campaign and set up for the courtyard event, but it was worth it in the end,” sophomore and Class of 2027 Vice President Nico Perales said. “I ran for vice president because I felt like I could bring fresh ideas to the table and help create a fun and supportive environment for everyone. Plus, I love working with people and being involved in school activities.”
Perales looks forward to working closely with his board while fulfilling his responsibilities as vice president.
“My role is to support the president in planning and organizing events and to communicate with other members and classmates to develop new ideas for the upcoming year,” Perales said. “I will be working closely with my class’s president and other board members to ensure we collaborate and share ideas that benefit our class.”
The incoming Student Council Board has a lot in store for the student body next year, and MPSH will only continue to be enhanced by the efforts of these students.
