After 24 seasons of coaching and six Super Bowl wins, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick announced Thursday morning he is leaving.
The Patriots announced his leave at noon, posting on their socials: “The Patriots and Bill Belichick have mutually agreed to part ways.” A press conference with team owner Robert Kraft later followed this where Belichick said he would “always be a Patriot.”
In his career, Belichick accomplished many achievements, including being the third coach in NFL history to reach 300 regular-season victories. This year was their worst, ending the season at 4-13, which led to many fans speculating his departure from the team.
Many fans were saddened by this loss, with former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady posting on his Instagram with the caption: “I’m incredibly grateful to have played for the best coach in the history of the NFL.”
Sources told ESPN that the Patriots linebackers coach Jerod Mayo is the main choice for the new head coach for the 2024 season.
