Once again, the swim season proved successful for the Palmetto boys’ swimming team. On November 13, after months of preparation, the boys swimming team accomplished a feat it had never done before: winning state competitions twice in a row.
Three years ago, at the same competition, the swim team lost by one point to Palm Harbor University High School after Palmetto’s relay score was disqualified. This year, the team beat Palm Harbor University High School by 15 points. Also, the difference between the 1st place time and the 4th place time was less than a second. The close loss gave the swim team more motivation to avenge the loss, so their victory at states proved inspiring for the swimmers.
“It boosts your confidence and gives you a lot of pride. It wasn’t an individual effort,” junior Derek Iglesias said.
The swim team hopes to learn from this year’s victory and continue their success.
“It (winning states) makes you a lot more pumped for next year,” junior Jack Danon said.
