Twitter uses text. Instagram uses photos. Phhhoto uses GIFs. A GIF is a moving picture, not exactly a video, but somewhere in between. With GIFs, Phhhoto achieves a special dynamic. The repeated frames employ a subtle sophistication that could only be attributed to a more advanced app. Phhhoto surrounds everything in dark black with subtle sleek, neon blue-green giving it a mature, night-life feel to it.

“It is disappointing that they do not have Phhhoto on Galaxy yet,” junior Anouk Ohayon said. “That might be a problem if they are trying to get bigger or more popular.”

Phhhoto started out as a mobile photo booth called Phhhoto Pro that could be rented out at parties and events. What began as an exclusive service became a much more popular free app download for iPhone users. The event photo booth can still be rented out and posted from the booth by updating the app profile.

“It seems like every second something new comes out and takes the social media world by storm,” junior David Perez said. “I don’t think Phhhoto will become the next Instagram, but I think it will be another entertaining app for kids.”

As of now, Phhhoto is only available for iPhone users but could make the jump to Android and Samsung phones. In order for it to grow and succeed like Snapchat and Instagram, it would need a more diverse audience. With celebrity endorsements from musicians such as Miley Cyrus and Diplo, they might need to make some room at the big app table for Phhhoto.
