The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks triumphed as the last teams standing in the battle for the prized Super Bowl ring. NBC will broadcast the big game at 6:30 PM from the University of Phoenix Stadium, located in Glendale, Arizona.
“I think the Patriots are going to bring in the win this year,” freshman Adriana Rojas said. “With a streak of 12 wins and four losses and Tom Brady as quarterback, we will dominate the field.”
The New England Patriots won the title of The American Football Conference champions while the Seahawks championed the title of the National Football Conference. The championship game holds 49 years of experience to its title, implementing the prestige that comes with winning the title of the best professional football team in America.
Tom Brady, the starting Patriot quarterback for 14 years, leads the team along with Bill Belichick, the team’s head coach since 1996. Belichick also holds the title of general manager for the Patriots and has brought the team to five Super Bowl games, winning three.
“The New England Patriots will be the winning team of the Super Bowl- they have been working diligently throughout the season,” junior Johnnyx Charlemangne said. “Also, they have one of the best tight ends, Rob Gronkowski.”
This season, Brady holds a record of eight interceptions, 33 touchdowns and 4,109 passing yards. Tight end Rob Gronkowski and wide receiver Brandon LaFell accompany Brady in the fight to earn the ring.
The Seahawks hold current membership in the West branch of the National Football Conference, along with the title of the NFC championship. In addition to membership in the National Football League, the Seahawks also hold the title of 2014 Super Bowl champions.
Winning the honors of having the loudest fans at a sporting event twice in the Guinness book of world records, the Seahawks harness a notable fan base. With nine division titles and three conference championships under their belt, The Seahawks have plenty of talent. February 1 marks the Seahawks third appearance at the Super Bowl.
“My heart is with the Patriots, but my brain is with the Seahawks,” math teacher Hector Echeveria said. “The Seahawks have the best defense, but I have family in Boston.”
Head coach and executive vice president Pete Carroll lead the Seahawks. Having coached the Seahawks since 2010, Carroll has also coached the New York Jets, the University of Southern California Trojans and their current competitors, the New England Patriots.
Russell Wilson currently holds the quarterback position for the Seahawks since 2012, when selected in the third round of the draft. Wilson additionally accounted for the title of Pepi’s NFL rookie of the year in 2012.
“I have always been a Seahawk fan and I know they are going to pull through once again,” sophomore Natalia Hazday said. “And lets be honest, they have the best uniforms.”
The Patriots were recently discovered using deflated footballs well below league standards. In the 2014 American Football Conference championship between the Indianapolis Colts and the Patriots, the Patriots reigned as champions, though their use of deflated balls inquiries the credibility of the game. The debate carried over into discussion as to if the Patriots are permitted to compete in the Super Bowl.
A study completed by physicists’ at Columbia University determined that weather and temperature could alter the pressure within a football, but the balls were most likely manipulated.
“The Patriots are going to win the Super Bowl ring because no one can bet against Tom Brady, but if it was up to me the Dolphins would be playing in the Super Bowl this year,” senior London Duran said.
