On Oct. 13, President Joe Biden visited St. Pete Beach, Fla. to view the damage done by Hurricane Milton. Biden touched down in Tampa and later took a helicopter to St. Pete Beach. Following the destruction of Hurricane Helene, Hurricane Milton brought on several feet of floodwater, home destruction and killed at least 17 people.
Biden announced that $600 million would go toward six Department of Energy projects to improve the resilience of electrical grids in areas affected by hurricanes. This includes $94 million for two projects in Florida.
On Oct. 12, Biden approved a disaster declaration for communities in Florida affected by Hurricane Milton. This declaration will free up funding for 34 counties, providing grants for temporary housing, uninsured property losses and programs to help residents and businesses.
