On April 1, Attorney General Pam Bondi called for federal prosecutors and judges to seek the death penalty for Luigi Mangione. Mangione is currently standing trial for the murder of United Healthcare Chief Executive Officer Brian Thompson on Dec. 4, 2024.
In a statement, Bondi called the death of Thompson a “cold-blooded assassination” and claimed that the decision to pursue the death penalty for Mangione aligns with President Trump’s agenda to “stop violent crime” and idea to “make America safe again.”
Mangione’s attorney, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, criticized the remark claiming it to be “political” and “barbaric,” emphasizing that the statement is an act of injustice to American people while defending the corruption of the healthcare industry.
As of now, Mangione has not been indicted of any charges federally.
