On Dec. 1, the U.S. House of Representatives voted for Republican Rep. George Santos to be expelled from office. Santos was expelled due to being charged with crimes such as wire fraud and money laundering.
Santos is the first member to be expelled before a federal conviction, after several attempts to take him out of Congress previously. The House Ethics Committee issued a 56-page report showing the allegations that Santos had deceived his donors, filed false campaign statements and used campaign money to fulfill his lifestyle. He used the money to buy things such as personal travel, botox and items from Hermes. To do this he used identity fraud and allegedly lied to collect unemployment benefits. He also lied about where he went to high school and college.
The vote was finalized at 311-114, with 105 Republicans voting, but the majority vote lay with the Democrats in favor of this expulsion.
