Florida’s Gov. Ron DeSantis dropped out of the 2024 presidential race on Sunday, Jan. 22. Following the 30-point loss to former President Donald Trump in the Iowa Caucus on Jan. 15, DeSantis saw no reason to stay in the running.
DeSantis said his reason for dropping the race was because he did not have a clear path to win and could not ask his supporters to volunteer any more of their time.
DeSantis followed this announcement with an endorsement for Trump. He claims he will be putting aside their differences and continuing to support the former president.
He continues to endorse former president Trump because he feels he will not bring America back to the old Republican guard.
DeSantis leaving the race was not much of a surprise, following comments made by Trump on Saturday, Jan. 20 at a rally in Manchester.
Based on the ongoing support DeSantis was receiving, voters saw him as having the closest chance at becoming president, even while running against Trump.
