Lights! Camera! Talent! On February 10, O’Interact will host the second annual Panthers Got Talent in the auditorium at 7 p.m., and anyone can attend for $10.
T-shirts will also be sold outside the auditorium for $10. The money that Interact raises will be going to O Ambassadors, an organization sponsored by Oprah Winfrey that raises money for global connections.
Half of the money from last year’s Panthers Got Talent went to help Haiti, and the money raised this year will go toward building wells in a poverty-stricken area in South Asia.
“The point this year is to raise money for the wells in South Asia, so we wanted to raise it for us [O-Ambassadors] and Interact as a whole, so the fundraiser was really big,” senior and President of O Ambassadors Kayla Jimenez said.
O Ambassadors started Panthers Got Talent to make it possible for the members to host a second annual Panthers Got Talent. According to Jimenez, the members wanted to find a way to raise money for a good cause but also wanted to entertain students and teachers.
“I would like to go this year because it looks fun, and on top of that we get to see students show the hidden talents they have or show us things that they are good at, so I will be looking forward to that,” senior Alan Salgo said.
Panthers Got Talent is based off of the reality television show “America’s Got Talent.” Any student is allowed to perform their talents in the show and display what they are great at doing.
“This year we have someone that is going to play the accordion. There are many bands that will be playing too. Last year we had a juggler who won so we’ll see who will win this year,” senior Clara Kim said.
Last year, participants had to pass through two auditions to perform in the show. This year, the O Ambassadors’ board decided to have only one audition and cut a few people after.
“We have many rehearsals before the show and we do dress rehearsals too. For our tickets and t-shirts, we design them and get to choose what goes on each,” Kim said.
It seems that Panther’s Got Talent is a venue for students to come out and express themselves in a way that people do not see everyday.
“It is usually people that you don’t normally see around school,” Kim said. “The students can just display their talent to the whole school.”
