Welcome back to the Student Council Newsletter Blog, a source for the Miami Palmetto Senior High students, faculty and community. After each Student Council meeting, expect a blog about all upcoming events and what was discussed.
On Oct. 21, MPSH’s Student Council held its third official meeting, discussing various topics. See all the information and what to look forward to in the coming months below. For any questions, comments or concerns please email [email protected].
New Business
- Holiday and drama shows are coming up. Come show some Panther spirit for the arts and make sure to buy tickets!
- Interact’s talent show is on Nov. 14. It will cost five dollars per ticket.
- The community Haunted House is taking place on Oct. 28. This includes activities like Trunk or Treat and Pumpkin Chunkin’. Palm oil-free candy donations are encouraged due to the dangers it causes to the environment. On Oct. 31, the Haunted House for students is in the auditorium.
- On Nov. 4, everyone should wear red, white and/or blue to commemorate the election.
Senior Board
- Congrats seniors on winning Homecoming overall, after coming in second for Panther Prowl.
- Reminder to purchase your senior ads.
Junior Board
- The junior class won the Prowl performance, so congrats to them.
- Junior Rings were sold on Oct. 23-24.
- Reminder to all juniors to make an Edna’s Cakes account to sell cakes for the Class of 2026.
Sophomore Board
- There is a fundraiser on Oct. 29 at Chill-N.
- The sophomore class had a successful turnout on their merchandise sales.
- The sophomore class is making an effort to collaborate with Key Club for a hurricane food drive.
Freshman Board
- The freshman class is hosting a merchandise competition.
Senate Initiatives
Special Events
- Homecoming turned out to be a fabulous success.
- The pep rally last Friday during fourth period raised money for United Way, which was pink-out themed in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
ICC Liaison
- Club Cup, a yearly activity where clubs compete for a huge trophy and bragging rights is in progress. More information will be released soon.
Parliamentarian
- The Parliamentarians have gone from classroom to classroom posting links to the MPSH Student Council Constitution, so the student body is aware of its meaning.
Historian
- Stay updated on the MPSH Instagram page to see the seven weeks of Throwback Thursdays in which alumni are recognized.
- Local celebrity Katie Phang reposted her Throwback Thursday post.
PR Content Creation
- PR Content Creation is currently working diligently with the other Senate Boards to help promote any projects such as making a video in collaboration with the PTSA/EESAC board to highlight the EESAC meetings which occur on the 2nd Monday of the month.
Student Involvement
- Student Involvement is currently working on how to make pep rallies more engaging including by making them themed.
- Student Involvement wants to host courtyard events to promote more spirit regarding home games to spread awareness of home basketball games.
PTSA/ESSAC Liaison
- The next meeting will take place Nov. 13.
- PTSA/EESAC is working with the Marketing Board to help students learn what ESSAC and PTSA is.
- The PTSA fundraisers have raised money to help improve the school’s new cameras for the MPSH Television Production class.
Staff Appreciation
- Fall Breakfast was a success.
- All Student Council Members will be assigned a Pen Pal in which the student will be assigned a teacher and give them gifts throughout the year
Community Outreach
- Community Outreach is attempting to create field trips to go to feeder schools and promote clubs at MPSH.
Recruitment
- Video for Hayduk and Corradino’s planning for Panther for a Day tour, which is Dec. 4.
- On Oct. 29, students of different magnet programs visited Palmetto Middle School for the Magnet Fair.
School Safety
- School Safety’s Start with Hello Week was very successful. Currently, are planning a vigil to commemorate all lives lost on Oct. 7.
- The biggest safety concern as of right now is the student’s parking lot.
Environmental Outreach
- The Environmental Outreach team is currently working on a short commercial in partnership with Television Production for Mr. Panther, to promote sustainable clothing and thrifting.
- Furthermore, Environmental Outreach also held activities in the courtyard celebrating Florida Climate Week raising awareness about climate change.
Open Forum
- The Senate Board of the Month is School Safety. The college fair was a huge success with a great turnout.
