Welcome to the Student Council Newsletter Blog, a source for the Miami Palmetto Senior High students, faculty and community to receive important information regarding all Student Council events and activities. After each Student Council meeting, expect a blog about all upcoming events and what was discussed.
Old Business:
- On Dec. 4, Student Council hosted the Panther for a Day event. All Student Council members actively participated, providing tours to prospective students and highlighting the benefits of attending MPSH.
New Business:
- All second-quarter Senate initiatives must be completed by the January meeting. To monitor these initiatives, all Senate Boards will meet with their respective Chief of Staff and Chief of Senate before the meeting. Class boards will meet with the Student Council President, Vice President and Secretary during lunches.
- There have been three successful school tours for prospective students, with the latest one on Dec. 5.
- There will be a Student Council Holiday Party on Dec. 19 during both lunches for all Student Council members to attend.
Staff Appreciation
- Pen Pals are underway and each class board will split one teacher while all other positions will each have a teacher individually.
Student Involvement
- Fun Fridays have started back up in which all clubs that participate earn points that go towards the Club Cup.
- All club officers must respond as soon as possible to the email sent out indicating which day their club will be hosting Fun Friday.
Legislation
- Three pieces of legislation were proposed, which all passed in the Student Council and have been sent to the House of Representatives for approval, and which will then be sent back to Student Council for final approval.
- 1. First offense of violating MPSH’s Academic Integrity Policy: Removal from Student Council for that school year.
- 2. Second offense of violating MPSH’s Academic Integrity Policy: Removal from Student Council permanently.
- 3. Election Ties: If there is a tie in any Student Council election, there will be a second round vote to determine which candidate reaches a majority.
Open Forum
- Item Sv2324-5 was passed stating a resolution of the Student Council of MPSH to stand in solidarity against terrorism and hate by holding a school-wide vigil.
- The Class of 2026 will write a proclamation to honor the end of Coach Donnie Martin’s 26 years of coaching at MPSH.
Class Boards
All Class Boards should have monthly cabinet and board meetings and send all notes to the Student Council Secretary.
- The Class of 2025 successfully held a Chill-N fundraiser on Dec. 3. Furthermore, the board met with their sponsor Armando Gonzalez to plan an event for seniors on the first day back from Winter Break.
- The Class of 2026 hit their goal of $30,000 in fundraising and successfully delivered all cakes to those who ordered.
- The Class of 2027 recently held a class cabinet meeting and had a fundraiser at Ernie’s Acai on Dec. 5.
- The Class of 2028 is currently working on future fundraisers.
The Community Outreach Board was named Senate Board of the Month, while Special Events Tech Director Jasmine Bourne and Nadiv Shapiro were named Senate Members of the Month. Environmental Outreach Chair Jaya Castro and PTSA/EESAC Liaison Joseph Kouperschmidt were named “Best Dressed.”
