At Super Bowl LV on Feb. 7, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9. Led by quarterback Tom Brady, the Buccaneers became the first team in Super Bowl history to play and win the championship in their home stadium.

At the age of 43, Tom Brady won his seventh National Football League championship, more than any other player in the history of American football. Additionally, he guided the Bucs to their second-ever championship title.

Although the Chiefs were favored to win under the leadership of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the team only scored off of field goals. Mahomes did not score any touchdowns, only the second game in his career in which this happened. Due to the Bucs’ constant defensive pressure, scoring for the Chiefs became extremely difficult.

Although COVID-19 acted as a barrier throughout the NFL season, the Raymond James Stadium hosted 25,000 in-person viewers and 30,000 cutout fans. Of the 25,000 fans, 7,500 frontline workers were invited to Tampa in honor of their hard work throughout the pandemic.

While the players and teams attract hundreds of thousands of spectators, the performers and commercials tend to also drive this consistent viewership. The LIV Super Bowl featured artists including H.E.R., Miley Cyrus, Jazmine Sullivan, Eric Church and The Weeknd. Additionally, for the first time, the Super Bowl featured a poet, Amanda Gorman.

Overall, after a season filled with adversity, the NFL finished their 101st season with a Buccaneers victory.
