In 1978, Allen Cohen said goodbye to Michigan winters and started over in Miami selling lemonade. An avid runner, he set up shop in Coconut Grove’s Kennedy Park, where athletes meet to train. This year round truck offers three flavors: lemonade, cherry/strawberry, and piña colada. All are made fresh every morning and cost only $2.50 a cup.
2. Venetian Pools
This unique pool located in Coral Gables was created in 1923 from a coral rock quarry, where much of the original coral rock was used to border the pool. The 820,000 gallon pool is fed with spring water from an underground aquifer. During spring and summer the pool is drained and filled daily.
3. Bass Museum of Art
Located in the heart of Miami Beach, the Bass Museum of Art offers a range of dynamic contemporary art exhibitions. Educational programs, artist projects, lectures, concerts and free family days complement the works on view. The museum was founded in 1963, when the City of Miami Beach accepted the donation of the private collection of John and Johanna Bass.
4. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden
Fairchild is known for exploring, explaining and conserving the world of tropical plants. They are one of the main conservation and education-based gardens in the world. Currently, the Chihuly exhibit is the main attraction. This year they will reach over 150,000 students with The Fairchild Challenge, Explorer and Discovery programs and more than 3,000 adults will participate in our Life Long Learning education courses.
5. Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM)
Pérez Art Museum Miami is a modern and contemporary art museum dedicated to collecting and exhibiting international art of the 20th and 21st centuries. Including pieces from Caribbean, North and South American cultures which adds vibrancy to the museum. The building was built and designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architects Herzog & de Meuron.
6. Vizcaya Museum & Gardens
Vizcaya was created as James Deering’s subtropical winter home in the 1910s. The museum features the Main House with 34 decorated rooms showing over 2,500 art objects and furnishings, ten acres of European-inspired gardens, an orchid collection totaling 2,000 specimens, and 25 acres of endangered forests.
7. South Pointe Park
South Pointe Park contains walking paths, a food stand, a large grassy area and an amazing 360 degree ocean view. The local park acts as a beach as well, including a miniature water park, a dog park and a beautiful pier. The park is known for its contemporary art sculptures, and the sight of the cruise ships sailing past.
