Trader Joe’s opening in Pinecrest

Drum roll please. Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, gather around to hear the miraculous news. The organic grocery gods have blessed Pinecrest with its very own Trader Joe’s. Never before has a Trader Joe’s made Miami its home. However, citizens gather even from afar to witness the grand opening of the organic market on Friday, October 18.

Customers line up anxiously, grasping mailed coupons tightly in their fists. The lucky patrons in the front of the line press their eager faces to the glass of the door, peering in, trying to capture a sneak peak of the goods. As the doors open, the employees run back to avoid the mob while the shoppers fight over carts and try to rush in to inspect the shiny new products awaiting them in the aisles.

Trader Joe’s sells all natural goods and fresh produce. Most markets see the adults as the target group since they seem most interested in shopping for produce and goods and seen the most in grocers, but a great deal of students await Trader Joe’s grand opening. People see it as a bohemian, hipster, low key market where many youngsters would shop due to the assortment of goodies and snacks.

“I’m pretty excited because we’ll have more grocery stores and more of a variety in the area,” senior Karra Brown said. “It has a nice ambiance and feels natural. They created a great way to spend money.”

Trader Joe’s holds foreign and local products such as their seasonal pumpkin biscotti, espresso pillows and spicy smoked peach salsa. The variety never ends which draws consumers in and makes them lifelong customers. However, some still doubt if it can keep up with Fresh Market, Publix and Whole Foods around.

“It seems like a cool, fun place you might see me at,” junior Josh Berry. “I hear it’s an organic market that’s affordable, but Whole Foods will never be replaced in my heart.”

Trader Joe’s fits the description of a relaxing paradise because of the uniform Hawaiian shirts and the constant ringing of the island bell instead of using a PA system. The employees help shoppers hatch out of their shells and make grocery shopping an enjoyable experience. Trader Joe’s creates a fun and stimulating environment for everyone, even the workers.

“I’m excited for the different products they’ll have,” said Ms. Patricia Marion, the home economics teacher. “It seems interesting and fun for the community. It will bring families out of their homes to come see the market. ”
