On Dec. 14, University of Colorado Boulder’s cornerback and wide receiver Travis Hunter took home the award given to the most valuable player in college football: the Heisman Trophy.
Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty came in second place, University of Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel came in third place and University of Miami quarterback Cam Ward came in fourth place.
Jeanty secured 2,017 points, earning him 309 votes. Hunter secured 2,231 points, leading him to win with 552 votes, making this the smallest margin of victory since 2009.
Hunter is the first player since Charles Woodson to win the Heisman while playing both offense and defense. An additional accomplishment Hunter achieved was being the No. 1 recruit to sign with a Historically Black College and University.
Hunter will now prepare for the Valero Alamo Bowl against BYU on Dec. 28. It will likely be his last game before declaring for the upcoming National Football League draft.
