On Thursday, Jan. 11, two U.S. Navy Sea, Air and Land officers were reported missing off the coast of Somalia following a nighttime boarding mission.
The SEALs were dispatched to investigate potential Iranian weapons headed toward the Houthis in Yemen. The vessel had been a part of an interdiction mission trying to restrict the weapons supply in Yemen. The SEALs were reported to have been climbing on a vessel when high waves and intense water conditions knocked one overboard. Following standard Navy SEAL protocol, the second officer went in after his partner in an attempt to rescue him. Both have been missing since.
A search and rescue mission has begun. They have yet to be publicly identified but were part of the Fifth fleet based in Bahrain.
