On March 3, the United States temporarily suspended all military aid sent to Ukraine. According to White House officials, aid will eventually resume. This decision was likely made after a heated argument between Ukraine’s president, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Feb. 28.
For aid to resume, Trump must determine that Ukraine has committed to making peace negotiations with Russia. This suspension pushes a decision for a ceasefire from Zelenskyy. This decision also caused most of NATO’s allies to pledge to step up and aid Ukraine and side with Zelenskyy after his dispute with Trump.
The order immediately took effect and affected over $1 billion in arms and ammunition. This directive also stops about hundreds of millions of dollars in aid that Kyiv can use to buy new U.S. defense military hardware.
