Winter Wonderland: Pinecrest Gardens Nights of Lights
December 13, 2021
On Dec. 10, Pinecrest Gardens opened its annual Nights of Lights exhibit. Running until Jan. 2, 2022, the event illuminates the botanical landscape nightly from 6 to 9 p.m., exhibiting a holiday-themed maze.
Nights of Lights features thousands of lights and art installations around the gardens, illuminating the floral scenery. The event is outdoors, making use of the beautiful greenery around Pinecrest Gardens.
Pinecrest Gardens, South Florida’s Cultural Arts Park, is a place that brings the community together in an effort to conserve South Florida’s historic botanical heritage. On a walk through the Gardens, one can find over 1,000 varieties of rare and exotic tropical plants and palm trees, as well as various natural streams and significant structures and buildings.
The gardens mean a lot to many throughout the community, including Councilmember Shannon del Prado.
“Pinecrest Gardens is a treasure, with over 180,000 people visiting each year. Our 12 acre wetland Garden hosts jazz concerts, plays and a variety of classes throughout the year. Pinecrest Gardens is a tremendous source of pride for our Village,” del Prado said.
The gardens are located at 11000 SW 57th Ave, Pinecrest, FL 33156.
Nights of Lights makes use of the Garden’s unique setting to unite South Florida with holiday festivities that provide a special experience for all families to enjoy.
“Community events are fun! And they provide an opportunity to connect with neighbors and spend time with those that are important to you,” del Prado said.
Last year, COVID-19 restricted the event to 400 people and implemented social distancing guidelines. This year, the festivities have fewer restrictions, allowing more people around the community to appreciate the lights and holiday cheer.
During Nights of Lights, Pinecrest Gardens offers different events for the whole family all around the park. Some of the children’s activities include Santa Claus guest appearances along with storytime with Ms. Claus. Several festivities throughout Nights of Lights — including the appearances of Mr. and Ms. Claus — will be held in the Banyan Bowl. Admission is $20 for adults and $15 for those under 18. Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable, and they are available on Eventbrite for pre-order.
